Ajar Support

Ajar connects your iPhone or iPad to your own computers over SSH. Start with the offline SSH and tmux guides in Connections. Your computer must be awake, running an SSH server, and reachable on your network or VPN. tmux keeps your work running when Ajar disconnects.

Completion alerts

Pro alerts require an active subscription, iOS notification permission, and the helper installed through Ajar on a computer with Python 3.8+ and tmux. Open the session’s Completion alerts screen and review the proposed computer changes before installing. Existing pairings carry over when you update Ajar.

For shell-command alerts, open a new shell or tmux pane after installing the helper. For Claude Code or Codex, restart the agent after setup so it loads its hooks. If Codex asks you to review hooks in /hooks, review both the Stop hook for completion and PermissionRequest hook for input requests. Approving one does not approve the other.

Use “Check this computer” to check the installed helper and each agent’s hook status. Then use “Send test alert” to check phone delivery. A successful test verifies the delivery path; it does not prove that an agent’s completion hook has run. To check that, finish a real command or agent turn and confirm the corresponding alert.

Your computer needs internet access to publish an alert. Sleeping computers, stopped helpers, disconnected networks, Focus, and iOS notification settings can delay or silence delivery. An alert accepted by the service is not confirmation that iOS displayed it.

Purchases

Open Ajar Settings → Ajar Pro to restore a purchase. If Pro is active but alert-service activation is pending, reconnect and retry the alert setup shown in Ajar. Manage or cancel your subscription in Apple’s subscription settings. SSH sessions and saved keys remain available without Pro.
